We audit a lot of local business profiles, and the same mistakes show up again and again. Each one costs real leads. The good news is that almost all of them can be fixed in an afternoon.
The first is an incomplete profile. Missing services, missing hours, no description, no attributes. Google rewards complete profiles with better visibility, and customers reward them with more trust.
The second is using the wrong primary category. The primary category is the single biggest ranking factor for what searches you appear on. Pick the one that most precisely describes your core service, not a broader catchall.
The third is ignoring reviews. Not asking for them. Not responding to them. Letting a single negative comment sit unanswered for weeks. Every unanswered review is a public signal that the business is not paying attention.
The fourth is never posting. The updates and offers section is free real estate. Businesses that post weekly get more engagement, more clicks, and stay top-of-mind with returning customers.
The fifth is stale or stock photography. A profile with three blurry photos from 2019 looks closed. Fresh, real photos every month signal an active business.
The sixth is inconsistent business information across the web. If your phone number is one thing on Google, another on Facebook, and a third on Yelp, Google starts to doubt all of them. Consistency builds authority.
Fix these six and most local businesses see more calls, more direction requests, and more bookings within thirty days.
